The Ultimate Fall To-Do List: 50 Activities for Friends and Family

Want to do some fun fall activities but not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered! Sometimes it feels like it takes forever for a holiday to get here, and then once it is here, it only lasts a short day and then it’s gone. With this list, you can celebrate fall for a few months. Take a look at what you can do with your friends and family below. Print this out and cross each activity off the list as you finish it!

Fall List:

  1. 1. Get Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Pumpkin Spice Hot Cocoa (great with dark or white chocolate!), or apple cider!

  2. 2. Drive up north to see and take pictures with the fall leaves. Put some leaves in a book to press them.

  3. 3. Go to a drive in movie at Schnepf Farms or make your own. Bonus points if you bring a truck and pile a bunch of blankets and pillows in the back to watch the movie from! Make different popcorn mixes with candy and make some other fall snacks for the full experience.

  4. 4. Buy Halloween socks and/or pajamas

  5. 5. Make your Halloween costumes – pick from a theme, like Disney, DC comics, etc and have your family or friends wear coordinating costumes from the same movie to make it even more fun!

  6. 6. Watch Halloween movies – inside cozy on the couch or outside on the lawn with blankets and a white sheet and projector.

  7. 7. Visit a farm/pumpkin patch/corn maze! See our fall festivals article to find one close to you.

  8. 8. Decorate your house for fall/Halloween with Dollar Store or Target Dollar Section decorations

  9. 9. Find fall crafts on Pinterest to make with your kids or for your house (see our Fill Your Plate article about this!)

  10. 10. Bake some fall treats or cook some fun fall meal recipes- find them on our recipe database and our Fill Your Plate Pinterest! Snickerdoodles, pumpkin bread, apple pie, cinnamon rolls, butternut squash soup, and much more.

  11. 11. Boo your neighbors

  12. 12. Trick or treat

  13. 13. Murder mystery dinner with family

  14. 14. Virtual Halloween costume party/competition with friends

  15. 15. Make a fall wreath

  16. 16. Get some mums in fall colors

  17. 17. Decorate with paper bats, faux pumpkins and fake spider webs

  18. 18. Buy a cozy sweater and/or flannel shirt

  19. 19. Buy some unique pumpkins from local farms in different shapes, sizes, textures and colors and decorate your porch with them

  20. 20. Buy or make some fall scented candles/potpourri. Bath and Body Works and Target both have great fall scents for candles, soaps, lotions and more.

  21. 21. Have a campfire with smores (here’s our recipes for different kinds of smores)

  22. 22. Go camping

  23. 23. Make a pinecone bird feeder

  24. 24. Go on a hike

  25. 25. Have a fall picnic

  26. 26. Roast pumpkin seeds

  27. 27. Make a log cabin out of popsicle sticks and decorate them. Make it a competition with prizes to make it even more fun.

  28. 28. Try out some stew recipes

  29. 29. Donate to a food bank or shelter

  30. 30. Go apple picking

  31. 31. Get some fall/Halloween cookie cutters and decorate sugar cookies

  32. 32. Make a fall trail mix with all sorts of different snacks and candy like mini versions of pretzels, peanut butter cups, Reese’s pieces, candy corn, and more.

  33. 33. Make caramel apples with a caramel apple bar. You can also pair this with bobbing for the apples first!

  34. 34. Make homemade pumpkin puree

  35. 35. Practice your classic thanksgiving recipes as well as new ones for turkey, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce, all different kinds of pies, etc. Instead of using canned ingredients, try making it with fresh produce from scratch!

  36. 36. Moms and daughters: Paint your nails with Halloween/fall colors and shapes (cobwebs, cats, moons, witch hats, leaves, pumpkins, etc.)

  37. 37. Make a list of what your thankful for. Or, use a mason jar as your “grateful” jar. Starting November 1st (or earlier if you’re really excited for this one), have each family member write down one thing they are grateful for every day and then read them all on Thanksgiving!

  38. 38. Make a scarecrow

  39. 39. Volunteer at a soup kitchen

  40. 40. Learn how to knit beanies, scarfs, mittens, and blankets

  41. 41. Decorate pumpkins (see our article for pumpkin decorating)

  42. 42. Bake the Pillsbury Halloween sugar cookies

  43. 43. Plan ahead for Thanksgiving. Decide who in your extended family will host, and who will bring what. If it will just be your family, who will help cook what so not one person will have to do all the cooking.

  44. 44. Plan ahead for Christmas. It’s better to shop in October and during Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals than wait until the last minute to finish your Christmas shopping!

  45. 45. Go to a high school football game (wear your masks, of course)

  46. 46. Read a book (even better if it’s a Halloween book like Frankenstein or And Then There Were None (see our fall book list article) and snuggle up with a blanket

  47. 47. Tour a haunted house

  48. 48. Go to a farmers market and get produce that’s in season: pumpkins, apples, corn, squash, etc.

  49. 49. Practice your face painting skills and try different looks to find the one you like best for your Halloween costume!

  50. 50. Go to Trader Joes and get some of your favorite fall items they have, like cinnamon scented witches brooms, pumpkin Kringle, petite pumpkin spice cookies, and so much more.
